Healthy Lung Month

Lung Health, Boardman Ohio

Each month health associations from around the world recognize both health issues and health professionals. By doing this, they are bringing awareness to specific health conditions. This month there are many significant health awareness topics such as;

National Breast Cancer Awareness Month
National Physical Therapy Month
World Mental Health Day (Oct. 10)
Bone and Joint Health National Action Week (Oct. 12th–20th)
Respiratory Care Week (Oct. 25th–31st)
World Psoriasis Day (Oct. 29)

While we wish we could talk about all of these important health awareness topics, we would like to write about Healthy Lung Month.

THE IMPORTANT FUNCTIONS OF YOUR LUNGS

  • Respiration
  • Filter small blood clots
  • Balance PH levels
  • Protect from Infection
  • Allow you to speak

You learn very early on that your lungs are one of your vital organs. When they do not function properly, your quality of life decreases as well. It can be easy to take for granted the simple task of breathing, but lung function is anything but simple.

Your lungs do more than breathe in air; according to Medical News Today, your lungs are responsible for balancing your PH levels, so there is not too much carbon dioxide in your body. They help filter small blood clots and act as a blood reservoir. They also protect you from infections by catching bacteria, dust, and other harmful particles.

HOW YOU CAN KEEP YOUR LUNGS HEALTHY

  • Breathing Exercises
  • Controlled coughing to clean out your lungs
  • Drinking Green Tea
  • Eating Anti-Inflammatory Foods
  • Exercise
  • Keep the air in your home clean
  • Steam Therapy

It is essential to take care of your lungs to keep them healthy and functioning properly. There are many natural ways you can do this. Medical News Today suggested eating anti-inflammatory foods such as blueberries, walnuts, olives, and nuts. They also suggested drinking green tea, which is full of antioxidants.

Keeping your home clean is a must for helping your lungs stay healthy. Dirt and dust in your home are breathed into your lungs. The Lung Institute recommends using a vacuum with a HEPA filter and testing for Radon in your home. They also recommend adding plants to your home, which is a great natural way to purify the air.

Steam therapy is another excellent way to cleanse your lungs. When you inhale warm water vapor, the droplets travel through your nasal passages and to your lungs. Along the way, they help loosen mucus. The warm air is also good for relieving symptoms from respiratory conditions such as the cold, flu, and bronchitis and reducing inflation.

HOW CAN SALT THERAPY HELPS YOUR LUNGS?

  • Eliminates toxins from the lungs
  • Helps relieve symptoms due to smoking
  • Increases lung capacity, oxygen intake, and improves lung function
  • Lower risk to common colds and prevent infection of healthy individuals
  • Lower risk to respiratory diseases.
  • Release of endorphins that reduce stress, which boosts the immune system.
  • Relief from asthma, allergies, sinusitis, and other respiratory diseases.
  • Relieves symptoms of obstructive lung disease, or COPD cough sputum

Salt Therapy, known as Halotherapy, is another way to keep your lungs healthy. During a salt session, you are not only surrounded by the dry salt in the room, but you are breathing the salt in as well. The halogenerator machine grinds up the salt, and the particles go into the air. The salt is anti-bacterial and anti-allergenic.  By breathing in the salt particles, your lungs are being cleansed of toxins and other foreign substances that can cause respiratory issues. The salt can also help loosen mucus and reduce inflammation. By keeping your lungs healthy and clean, your lung function will improve.
